Saddleback Restaurant Group Acquires Coach’s Pub & Grill

LANSING, MI — Saddleback Restaurant Group is thrilled to announce that in mid-February, we will officially acquire Coach’s Pub & Grill, welcoming their talented team to the Saddleback family. For more than nine years, Saddleback has been dedicated to delivering exceptional experiences to the Lansing community. With this exciting acquisition, we are poised to offer even more unique experiences through Coach’s beloved food, outstanding service, and renowned volleyball league.

“I believe that to take Coach’s to the next level, we needed a partner who truly shares our vision,” said Jim MacQueen, co-owner of Coach’s Pub & Grill. “Over the past six years, my responsibilities have grown, and I haven’t been able to implement impactful changes as quickly as I’d like. Coach’s has already undergone a remarkable transformation and is a great restaurant, but I know it has even more potential. That’s why I’m thrilled to partner with the Saddleback team to bring our shared dreams to life. Thank you to our incredible staff and loyal customers—we’re excited to get to work and make Coach’s even better.”

Coach’s Pub & Grill has been a cornerstone of Delhi Township for over 22 years. Founded by Dennis Shumway as a neighborhood sports pub, it quickly became a go-to destination for locals. Six years ago, Dennis brought in Jim MacQueen, who revitalized the pub by refining the menu and revamping the interior, creating a welcoming space where families could gather, enjoy great food, and watch the game. Now, with Saddleback Restaurant Group’s support, Coach’s is ready to take the next step in its evolution.

What Stays the Same:

  • The Name You Trust: Coach’s Pub & Grill will remain Coach’s.

  • The Team You Know: Your favorite servers and cooks are staying.

  • The Food You Love: No drastic menu changes—all your favorite items will remain.

What Gets Even Better:

  • Enhanced Volleyball Experience: Coach’s boasts the best sand volleyball facility in Mid-Michigan, and we are committed to making even greater improvements for players.

  • Upgraded Facilities: We’re investing in better parking, fresh paint, and upgrades to tables, chairs, and plating.

  • Creative Menu Evolution: While staples of the menu will stay, Saddleback’s expertise in smoked meats will inspire new specials and unique menu items.

“We understand that Coach’s is a different restaurant concept,” said Matt Gillett, co-owner of Saddleback Restaurant Group. “Our goal is to honor what makes Coach’s special while introducing enhancements that elevate the experience for staff and customers alike. This diversity will not only strengthen our business but also allow us to share expertise across teams, combine resources to address rising costs, and create more opportunities for our employees.”

Jim and Matt’s partnership is rooted in a friendship that spans over nine years, having first met during the early days of Saddleback. Their shared passion for the food industry and dedication to community has laid the foundation for this new chapter of Coach’s. Together, they are committed to preserving Coach’s legacy while building an even brighter future.

The final stages of the acquisition are underway, with Saddleback Restaurant Group expected to take full ownership in early February. Stay tuned for more updates as we embark on this exciting journey.

Thank you, Lansing, for your continued support!
